An area of high pressure to the southeast will draw warmer air up into the region today and saturday. highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Clouds will be on the increase saturday ahead of an approaching cold front. There is not that much cold air behind this cold front but it will be noticably cooler with more seasonal temperatures for this time of year. Highs will be in the upper 30s sunday and low 30s for most of next week. A series of storms will travel well to the south of the region giving the areas dry but seasonal temperatures. This will at least allow ski areas to create man made snow.
There are a few things that i would like to point out at why we are struggling to get any good winter storms and why this could continue for the next few weeks as the pattern ever so slowly changes.
1. Pacific jet stream has been strong.
2 Jet streams are not merging.
3 a southeast ridge has formed.
4 polar jet looks to generally be flat with limited cooler canadian air to come in from the north.
This set up does not equal no chance of wintery precip but it does greatly reduce it. Over all the eastern third of the usa could see above normal temperatures but new england can experiance highs around normal to above normal
