from record cold to record warmth.

It is the weather, you will see extremes, but welcome to a change from a high of 10 degrees on Sunday. 20 degrees on Monday to 40s and 50s today. that is a 40 degree difference in high temperatures in a 48 hour period and a 20 degree difference in a 24 hour period.

A storm system traveling well west of the area is dragging a warm front across the region, This allowed snow and Ice to develop last night. Areas generally saw 1 to 3 inches of snow across the Merrimack Valley with Ice accretion up to .2 of an inch in some locations. Now There is a break in the action, with even some sunshine peaking through the clouds, with temperatures rising into the 40s, If you are in a Valley, the temperatures will take a while to jump, but once it does, It will climb rapidly.  This and the rain coming this late afternoon and evening is not the important part of the storm though, It is the wind, winds will be very strong this late afternoon and evening. The wind will probably cause power outages especially south of the mass pike in southeast Massachusetts and eastern locations. Winds of 25 to 35 mph will be likely, with wind gusts up to 65mph, Unlike coastal storms this wind will be wide spread and not limited to coastal areas. Rain should develop from the south and west and should end in the evening.

After this system, An area of high pressure will take control of the weather, highs will be in the low to mid 40s on Wednesday but 30s on Thursday and Friday with mostly to partly cloudy skies. An area of high pressure to the south and a storm system coming from the northwest will lead to a battle zone of warm and cool in the northeast over the weekend with a chance of rain and snow showers Friday night into Saturday as a clipper system moves to the north of the region.
