Monday has Turned into a Big Deal..

Yes, yesterday, I was saying this was not going to be a big deal, maybe a few inches, but right after I posted, new data was available, just like the Friday storm, this storm has thrown us a few curve balls and could continue to do so. We know it will not be a direct hit, if it was, the coast would be in huge trouble.

I know,  my map is lower than most you are seeing tonight, what I am concerned about is the fact that the low pressure system is so far south and east of the region.  We will also see very cold air come in from the northwest.

When this type of storm sets up, cold air can sometimes eat the northwest precipitation shields. We will be seeing a coastal front form, those along this front will have the  highest amounts. Areas south and east of this coastal front will be seeing a heavy wet snow,  These areas will also see the strongest winds. Eastern Plymouth county, cape and Islands will likely see Blizzard conditions for a time Monday afternoon.  This type of storm since it is such a powerful storm will be a heavy band and light band coming off the coast which leads me to say that most will see the lower ends of the ranges. The exception will be in interior southeast Massachusetts where a a coastal front will form.

Winds. Even though it is far out to sea, there will still be wind, There is a chance of Blizzard conditions to be met for 3 or more hours ( to be considered a Blizzard)  in coastal Plymouth county, cape and Islands. There is still a chance for this system to come closer and to have more precipitation. Will update late tonight/early tomorrow morning.  My forecast may very well be way to low, but I am feeling many people jumped on to the extreme. This might give way to a small storm for Wednesday.

storm5.1

In the purple on map on the left is 4-8 inches, but there could be some locations that see up to a foot in southeast mass within the blue lined area on the map on the right.  the blue on the map on the left shows an area 2-4 inches of snow.

The grey area shows less than 2 inches.

Now on the map on the right.

There is still a chance for Blizzard criteria to be met for 3 or more hours in the areas shaded in Orange. with possible Blizzard conditions being felt out to the orange line.

The mix of austronotical high tide and large sees will lead to coastal concerns. Light to Moderate coastal flooding is likely at this time.

Will continue to monitor the storm, see if the larger amount scenerio comes true or not, but right now I am leaning to the lighter side of things. The best chance of seeing higher amounts again are in southeast mass, cape and Islands.
